How do I share a task with another teacher?

Invite a colleague at your school to co-own a task, send any teacher their own copy, duplicate a task or hand it over.

There are two main ways to share a task with another teacher. Invite them to co-own it, so you run the same assessment together, or send them their own copy to use with their class. You can also duplicate a task for yourself, or hand a task over.

Which option to use

  • To run the same assessment together, with one access code and one list of students, invite them to co-own the task. They must be a teacher at your school.

  • To give another educator their own copy for their class, use Share with educator. This works with teachers at any school, and no student data is shared.

  • To run a task again yourself, for example with another class, use Duplicate.

  • To hand a task over to a colleague, invite them to co-own it, then use Transfer ownership.

Invite a teacher to co-own a task

  • Co-owners see the same students, transcripts and results as you. They can edit the task and manage students, for example readmitting a student or marking against the rubric.

  • Your colleague needs a Thinking Mode account at your school first. Co-owning isn’t available on a personal account.

  • Only the owner can invite or remove co-owners. A co-owner can stop co-owning at any time with Leave.

Send a teacher their own copy

  • The copy includes the task design, instructions, any PDF and your settings. It doesn’t include your students, their results or your rubric.

  • The copy is a separate, unpublished task with its own access code. Changes either of you make afterwards don’t reach the other.

  • Anyone with a Thinking Mode teacher account can use your link to receive a copy of your task. So ensure to only send to trusted educators.

Duplicate a task

Click Duplicate on the task in your dashboard. You get a new, unpublished task with “(copy)” added to its title and its own access code. It keeps the rubric and settings, but not the students or results.

Hand a task over

Once your colleague has accepted your invitation to co-own the task, open Collaborators, click Transfer ownership and choose them as the New owner. You lose access to the task and its student data once it’s transferred, unless the new owner invites you back.

If the teacher who owns a task has already left your school, a coordinator can reassign it from Former teachers.
