Canvas Admin Setup Guide for Thinking Mode

For Canvas integration, Thinking Mode requires a Canvas admin to complete the following steps. It allows teachers and students to log in to Thinking Mode through Canvas using the LTI 1.3 standard. It also allows teachers to post Thinking Mode files and transcripts back to the LMS as submissions in the relevant Canvas assignment.

Data Privacy

All data is processed and stored according to our Privacy Policy. We do not pull personally identifying information from Canvas, such as names or email addresses. Instead, Canvas sends an opaque user ID for us to match returning teachers and students. We also receive the user's role (such as "Student" or "Instructor").

Teachers enter their full name, email address and organisation when launching through Canvas into Thinking Mode for the first time.

Students enter their first name when launching into each activity for the first time.

Thinking Mode has now been added as an app. But it is not yet available in any courses. We need to change it from "Not Available" to "Available"

Part 3: Linking your school in Canvas with your school in Thinking Mode

Step 1: Click “Admin”, then the name of your Canvas account. This is usually your school name.
Step 2: Click “Apps”, “Manage”, then “Install new App”
Step 3: Select LTI Version is 1.3 Install Method is JSON
Step 4: Copy the entire JSON configuration on the right, paste it into your Canvas JSON text area and click Next.
